Men’s and women’s basketball teams fall to Lake Michigan

KCC’s basketball teams play their first home games of the season tonight.

The Kellogg Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams both fell to Lake Michigan College in what was each team’s first Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference match-up of the season. KCC stats for each game are below.

KCC women’s basketball (lost 41-63)

Freshman guard Lauren Mengel (Marshall) led in scoring with nine points, while freshman guard Andrea Polley (Delton Kellogg) added eight and sophomore forward Janeesa Jamierson (Battle Creek Central) and freshman guard Therese Vasser (Southeastern) each added six. Jamierson also had 13 rebounds and a steal, while sophomore forward Malika Flenorl (Lakeview) pulled down six rebounds.

KCC men’s basketball (lost 86-91 in overtime)

It was a hard-fought game from start to finish — it was tied 44-44 at the half — but the Bruins finally fell in overtime.

Four Bruins scored in double digits, with freshman forward Nathan Taylor (Battle Creek Central) scoring 21, sophomore forward Darius Holman (Rich East) scoring 17, freshman guard Jalen Lamar (Comstock) scoring 14 and sophomore guard Christian Covile (John Glenn) scoring 12.

Taylor also added five rebounds, four assists and two steals, while sophomore guard Quincy Armstrong, Jr. (Harper Creek) had five assists and freshman forward Devrin Hill (Portage Central) had four blocks.

In a brief article posted about the game, the Herald-Palladium reports that the Bruins hit 12 three-pointers during the game.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams both play Kalamazoo Valley Community College tonight in their first home games of the year. The women’s game starts at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Miller Gym on KCC’s North Avenue campus.
