Men’s basketball falls 91-93 to fifth-ranked KVCC in overtime

The Kellogg Community College men’s basketball team played tough against fifth-ranked Kalamazoo Valley Community College at home on Monday, leading by 15 points at the half, but the Bruins ultimately fell 91-93 in overtime.

Freshman guard Jalen Lamar (Comstock) led the Bruins in scoring, dropping 29 points and adding seven blocked shots. Sophomore guard Christian Covile (John Glenn) and freshman forward Nathan Taylor (Battle Creek Central) each had a double-double, with Covile scoring 25 with 10 rebounds and three steals and Taylor scoring 13 with 10 rebounds and six assists.

Also contributing for the Bruins was sophomore guard Marlon Allen (North Farmington), who scored 11 with seven assists and three steals.

The loss brings the team’s record to 3-11 overall and 0-2 in their Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference. They play next beginning at 7:30 p.m. tonight against Grand Rapids Community College at home in the Miller Gym on KCC’s North Avenue campus.
