KCC basketball teams defeat MCC in weekend contests

The Kellogg Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams scored two victories at home on Saturday, with the women winning 66-52 and the men winning 80-73 over Muskegon Community College at the Miller Gym. Below are stats for the Bruins from each game.

KCC’S WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM (won 66-52)

Sophomore forward Janeesa Jamierson (Battle Creek Central) and sophomore guard Raeha Weaver (Lakeview) both scored in the double digits to lead the Bruins on offense, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively. Freshman point guard Teonna Pope (Southeastern) scored nine and also had six assists and seven steals.

Freshman guard Cherese Vasser (Southeastern) had six rebounds, while freshman guard Andrea Polley (Delton Kellogg) had four.

Saturday’s win — the second in a row for the Bruins — brings the women’s record to 2-3 in their Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference and to 6-8 overall for the season so far.

KCC’S MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM (won 80-73)

The Bruins had three players score in double digits for the win, with freshman forward Nathan Taylor (Battle Creek Central) scoring 22 with 13 rebounds for a double-double, sophomore guard Christian Covile (John Glenn) scoring 17 with four assists and sophomore forward Darius Holman (Rich East) scoring 13 with two steals.

Also contributing for the Bruins were sophomore guard Marlon Allen (North Farmington), who had eight assists; sophomore center Henry Williams (Albion), who had eight blocks; and freshman guard Jalen Lamar (Comstock), who had seven rebounds.

Saturday’s win brings the men’s record to 2-3 in their Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference and to 5-12 overall for the season so far.
