KCC men’s basketball roundup: Jan. 30 through Feb. 4, 2013

The Kellogg Community College men’s basketball team won one and lost two of their last three games, with the losses played against two of the top three teams in their Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference. Here’s a roundup of recent play.

Vs. LANSING COMMUNITY COLLEGE on JAN. 30, 2013: LOST 72-77 in LANSING

Despite leading 38-27 at the half, the Bruins fell to LCC, currently ranked second in the conference.

Freshman forward Nathan Taylor (Battle Creek Central) led the Bruins on offense, scoring 25 points with six rebounds. Sophomore guard Christian Covile (John Glenn) fell just shy of a double-double, scoring 14 with nine rebounds and adding three assists and three steals.

Also contributing for the Bruins were sophomore forward Darius Holman (Rich East), who scored 11; sophomore guard Marlon Allen (North Farmington), who had eight assists; and freshman guard Jalen Lamar (Comstock), who had three assists.

Vs. LAKE MICHIGAN COLLEGE on FEB. 2, 2013: WON 88-67 at HOME

Covile scored 22 with five rebounds and three steals, while Holman scored 20 and also had five rebounds. Allen had a double-double, scoring 10 and adding 12 assists and two blocks.

Also contributing for the Bruins were Lamar, who had six rebounds and three steals; freshman forward Devrin Hill (Portage Central), who had five rebounds; Taylor, who had four steals; and sophomore center Henry Williams (Albion), who had two blocks.

Vs. KALAMAZOO VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE on FEB. 4, 2013: LOST 76-92 in KALAMAZOO

Taylor scored 24 with nine rebounds, while Holman scored 20, Hill scored 12 with six blocks and two steals, and Allen scored 12 with eight assists.

Also contributing for the Bruins were Covile, who had seven rebounds and two steals; and Lamar, who had six assists.

THE RECORD SO FAR

After the above games and with about a quarter of the season left to play, KCC’s men’s basketball team has a conference record of 4-6 and an overall record of 7-15 for the season so far. The team plays next beginning at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 6, against Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids.
