Kellogg Community College sophomore Aubree Cable has committed to play soccer at Carson-Newman University, an NCAA Division II school located in Jefferson City, Tenn.

The two-year captain of KCC’s women’s soccer team – itself just two years old – received Academic All-Conference and Academic All-State honors in 2011 and made the MCCAA Second Team All-Region with Honorable Mention All-MCCAA honors in 2012.

Barth Beasley, head coach of KCC’s women’s soccer team, said KCC couldn’t ask for a better representative.

“A player like Aubree who’s got two years under her belt of solid playing time, plus maturity, a good GPA and academic honors, that’s really attractive,” Beasley said. “Who else would you want setting an example for the quality we’re turning out here at KCC as a student-athlete?”

Cable was one of just two returning sophomores to play through the season in 2012. After a tough season in 2011 that saw the team go 0-16 with zero goals scored, Cable and the Bruins went 6-9-1 in 2012, with Cable scoring twice and adding two assists.

The lifelong soccer player and Harper Creek graduate, who played center midfield her freshman year before moving to defender last season, has taken general studies courses at KCC and plans to study nursing at Carson-Newman.

“I’m really, really glad that I played for KCC and I’m glad I had the coach I did,” Cable said. “He was hard on us, but he helped me to become the player I am today, and he definitely opened my eyes to different opportunities in my life.”

Beasley said Cable rose to the responsibilities she had as a captain, including hard work, accountability, humility, fairness and setting an example for others on and off the field.

“Aubree took ownership of her college academic and soccer career,” he said. “She really understood that the only place that success comes before work is in the dictionary.”
