Kellogg Community College invites the public to join the College in honoring veterans during a Veterans Day Celebration as part of KCC’s Veterans Month in November.

The event will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day, in the Student Center on the College’s campus at 450 North Ave., Battle Creek. It is free and open to the public.

Several student and employee veterans will participate in the ceremony, including KCC Director of Institutional Facilities and Public Safety John Di Pierro, a retired Air Force colonel who will serve as master of ceremonies.

Activities will include a presentation of colors, the singing of the National Anthem, a recitation from veteran students who are part of the Veteran Writing Project on campus, and a keynote address from KCC Board of Trustees Chair Steve Claywell, who served as a petty officer third class in the U.S. Navy.

KCC President Dr. Dennis Bona, who will lead the Pledge of Allegiance during the event, said the event is just one example of the way the College demonstrates its commitment to veteran students.

“We’re proud of our student veterans and grateful for their service, as well as the service provided by all veterans,” Bona said. “Events like the Veterans Day Celebration, which has become an annual event on campus, and campus resources like our VetSuccess on Campus program help make KCC a welcome environment for current and former military servicemen and women, and their families.”

The Veterans Day Celebration is just one of several events and activities to be held at KCC this month to honor veterans. Other initiatives include a Veterans Art Exhibit to be shown in the College’s library through Nov. 26, a job fair event on Nov. 17, a Fitness Challenge event on Nov. 20 and a public lecture delivered by New York Times bestselling author Luis Carlos Montalván on Nov. 25.
