KCC baseball players receive postseason honors from the MCCAA, NJCAA

Twenty individual Kellogg Community College baseball players have been honored with postseason academic and athletic awards from the Michigan Community College Athletic Association and National Junior College Athletic Association for their work in the classroom and on the field this season.

Academic honors awarded to KCC student-athletes for their performance in the classroom during the 2015-16 academic year include:

  • The MCCAA Academic All-Conference Award, for which a student-athlete must have completed at least 24 credits with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • The Academic All-MCCAA Award, for which a student-athlete must have completed 24 credits with a GPA of 3.20 or higher
  • The NJCAA Award of Exemplary Academic Achievement, for which a student-athlete must have completed 24 credits with a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79
  • The NJCAA Award of Superior Academic Achievement, for which a student-athlete must have completed 24 credits with a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99

In addition to the individual awards listed below, KCC’s baseball team was named an MCCAA All-Academic Team for having a team GPA of 3.17. This honor is awarded to teams with an overall team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Individual honors were awarded to the following KCC student-athletes:

  • Sophomore pitcher Tate Brawley, of Niles, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-MCCAA, All-MCCAA First Team

  • Sophomore infielder Anthony DiPonio, of Dearborn Heights, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-MCCAA, All-MCCAA Second Team
  • Sophomore outfielder Austin Gonser, of Vermontville, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-MCCAA
  • Sophomore pitcher Walter Graf, of Richland, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-MCCAA
  • Freshman pitcher Blake Groat, of Battle Creek, Academic All-Conference
  • Freshman catcher Garrett Hammer, of Fort Collins, Colo., Academic All-Conference, Region XII All-Tournament Team
  • Freshman pitcher Brandon Hass, of Wyoming, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-MCCAA, NJCAA Award of Exemplary Academic Achievement
  • Sophomore pitcher Jacob Lincoln, of Jackson, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-MCCAA, NJCAA Award of Exemplary Academic Achievement, Region XII All-Tournament Team
  • Freshman infielder/outfielder Cooper Marshall, of Traverse City, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-MCCAA, NJCAA Award of Exemplary Academic Achievement, All-MCCAA First Team, All-Region XII First Team, MCCAA All-Freshman Team, MCCAA Freshman of the Year
  • Sophomore first-baseman Jason Mueller, of Battle Creek, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-MCCAA, NJCAA Award of Superior Academic Achievement
  • Sophomore pitcher Matt Pearsall, of St. Johns, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-MCCAA, All-MCCAA Third Team, Region XII All-Tournament Team
  • Freshman infielder Trevor Polewka, of Jackson, All-Region XII First Team, All-MCCAA Third Team
  • Freshman pitcher Cole Sanderson, of Macomb, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-MCCAA, All-MCCAA Honorable Mention
  • Sophomore pitcher Alex Sova, of Midland, Academic All-Conference
  • Sophomore outfielder Bradley Spieldenner, of Scotts, Academic All-Conference, Academic All-MCCAA, NJCAA Award of Exemplary Academic Achievement
