KCC’s Bruin Bookstore collects 110 pairs of shoes for donation, recycling

KCC's Bruin Bookstore is located on the first floor of the Lane-Thomas Building on the college's North Avenue campus in Battle Creek.

Kellogg Community College’s Bruin Bookstore collected 110 pairs of shoes for donation and recycling as part of its annual Sneaker Collection campaign in April.

This is the fourth consecutive year the bookstore has run the Sneaker Collection campaign, which since its inception has resulted in nearly 400 pairs of gently worn and unusable shoes collected for donation or recycling.

“We would again like to thank everyone that dropped off sneakers at the KCC Bruin Bookstore to help make our latest Sneaker Collection a success,” Catherine James, manager of the Bruin Bookstore, said. “Your donations help the bookstore continue to make a positive impact on the community beyond our campus.”

The Sneaker Collection is one of many community collections undertaken at the Bruin Bookstore each year, which include an annual Hoodies for the Homeless shirts and coats collection each fall semester. An eyeglasses collection in March at the bookstore resulted in 180 pairs of used eyeglasses collected for donation and recycling through the Lions Club Recycle for Sight program; a similar collection last year brought in nearly 250 pairs of eyeglasses for donation.
