Kellogg Community College is offering two brand-new unique robotics camps for youth ages 8 to 12 in July.

KCC’s Ball in Play! Robot Soccer Challenge and BattleBots robotics camps will run from Monday, July 10, through Thursday, July 13, at KCC’s Regional Manufacturing Technology Center campus, 450 Hill Brady Road, Battle Creek. Details about each camp follow.

Ball in Play! Robot Soccer Challenge
8:30 a.m. to noon July 10-13
Cost: $99

Robots can do just about anything, including play soccer! In this camp, students will learn how to build robots that are quick, nimble and durable in order to outplay their opponents and score the winning goal. Using VEX robotic kits, the first part of the week will be focused on the engineering and design aspects of creating soccer-playing robots. The week will conclude with tournament play, during which each student will control their bot as it competes against other teams to kick, score and win!

BattleBots
12:30 to 4 p.m. July 10-13
Cost: $99

What kind of robot does it take to withstand intense competition in the ring? Should it be indestructible? Fast? Nimble? Super strong? In BattleBots camp, students will answer those questions by learning to design and build robots that are up to the challenge of a BattleBots competition. Using Lego NXT kits, students will spend the week preparing and testing their robot. The camp will end with a grand battle to crown the champion that has outlasted all the others. There can be only one!

Individuals signing up for both camps can register at a reduced rate of $175; students signing up for the full day of camps should bring a lunch to each in a supervised lunch area on campus from noon to 12:30 p.m. Space in each program is limited and granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
