KCC men’s basketball falls 90-78 to Grand Rapids Community College

KCC's 2018-19 men's basketball team.

The Kellogg Community College men’s basketball team lost its last home game of the season 90-78 against conference opponent Grand Rapids Community College on Monday.

Leading the Bruins on the court were sophomore Davian Phillips, who had 16 points; sophomore Omar Tabb Jr., who had 15 points; sophomore Tishaun Cooper, who had 11 points; and freshman Dom Gibson, who scored 10 points.

Head Men’s Basketball Coach Gary Sprague said the Bruins played very well defensively throughout the game.

“The game was determined at the free throw line,” Sprague said. “GRCC was 27-37 at the line while KCC only went to the line 7 times making 10 of 14. The Bruins finish the season in Lansing tomorrow. They need a win plus losses by Glen Oaks and KVCC to get into the playoffs.”

The recent loss brings the Bruins’ overall record for the season so far to 11-15; the teams conference record to 6-11.

The Bruins last conference game of the season starts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, against Lansing Community College in Lansing.
