Volleyball results: Team returns home Thursday for match against Lansing

Kellogg Community College’s women’s volleyball team has gone 1-5 over the last five matches on a tough road schedule that’s seen the team play at home just once over a dozen matches since mid-September.

The latest match results bring the Bruins’ conference record for the season so far to 3-10; the team’s overall record is 7-14.

Tuesday, Oct. 1: KCC 3, Ancilla 0

KCC opened October with a win over Ancilla College in three sets in Donaldson, Indiana, on Tuesday, Oct. 1, with scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-16, respectively.

Thursday, Oct. 3: Jackson 3, KCC 0

KCC fell in three sets to Jackson College in Jackson on Thursday, Oct. 3, with scores of 26-24, 25-18 and 25-16, respectively.

Head KCC Women’s Volleyball Coach Tom VanWienen said it was not as productive a night as the team had been training for.

“We were lacking some consistency on the offensive and the defensive side of the ball,” VanWienen said. “The ladies will continue to work hard to finish out the season and I am confident that we will make a run here in the latter part of the schedule.”

Tuesday, Oct. 8: Muskegon 3, KCC 0

KCC fell in three sets to Muskegon Community College at home in Battle Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 8, with scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-17, respectively.

Sophomore Madison Ducheney (Marshall/Marshall High School) had 6 kills and 9 digs; freshman Grace Hall (Battle Creek/Pennfield High School) had 8 kills; sophomore Abigail Howard (Delton/Delton Kellogg High School) had 5 kills and 1 block assist; and sophomore Madison Jones (Hillsdale/Hillsdale High School) had 4 kills, 30 assists and 3 digs.

VanWienen said it he thought the team “played a good portion of defense tonight and had some bright spots on offense.”

“We are just a bit lost right now in doing those little things that add up to points for our opponents,” VanWienen said. “The ladies are working hard and we are working in practice.”

Thursday, Oct. 10: Glen Oaks 3, KCC 1

KCC fell in four sets to Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville on Thursday, Oct. 10. KCC took the first set 27-25; Glen Oaks took the final three with scores of 25-15, 25-8 and 25-15, respectively.

Tuesday, Oct. 15: GRCC 3, KCC 0

KCC fell in three sets to Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids on Tuesday, Oct. 16, with scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-22, respectively.

KCC returns home for a 6:30 p.m. start against Lansing Community College tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Miller Gym. Admission to the match, as at all KCC home games, is free.
