Men’s basketball results: KCC defeats GOCC 79-69

KCC's 2019-20 men's basketball team.

The Kellogg Community College men’s basketball team won at its latest home game 79-69 against Glen Oaks Community College on Saturday.

Leading for the Bruins were sophomore Ron Jamierson, with 18 points and 4 steals; freshman Tahveayr Boykins, who had 15 points and 8 rebounds; sophomore Jamari Thomas-Newell, who had 12 points and 8 rebounds; freshman Dashaan Palmer, with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocked shots; sophomore Zachary Sims, with 10 points; and freshman Eddie Wesley, who had 4 assists.

Head Men’s Basketball Coach Gary Sprague said the win moves KCC into a tie for third in the conference, and avenges an early season loss to the Vikings last month in Centreville.

“A relentless defense held Glen Oaks to 36% shooting overall and 22% from 3-point range,” Sprague said. “The Bruins scored 18 points from 16 forced turnovers.”

The recent win brings the Bruins’ overall record for the season so far to 10-13; the team’s conference record is 7-5.

The team’s next match is away Wednesday, Feb. 12. The tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. in Benton Harbor against Lake Michigan College.
