KCC softball wins 3 of 4 home games

Kellogg Community College’s softball team will take on Muskegon Community College in two games beginning at 3 p.m. this afternoon at Bailey Park in Battle Creek. The Bruins are coming of a winning weekend that saw them walk away with three victories out of four home games split between Friday and Saturday. Below are some highlights from those games.

Vs. Glen Oaks Community College, April 6, 2012

The Bruins swept Glen Oaks on April 6, winning their first game 13-0 and their second game 5-1.

In game one (13-0), batting leaders included freshman infielder Tiffani Allwardt, who was two-for-three at bat, including a home run and three RBIs; and freshman outfielder MacKenzie Kendall, who was three-for-three at bat, including two RBIs. Freshman pitcher Tara Harding was two-for-two with a double and three RBIs and sophomore outfielder Ashley Nearpass was two-for-three with a double and one RBI. Sophomore pitcher Kristin Van Oosten led from the mound with 11 strikeouts in five innings.

In game two (5-1), Allwardt and freshman pitcher Ashley Burrit were both two-for-four at bat with an RBI apiece. Sophomore catcher/infielder Emily Butts was two-for-three and sophomore Elizabeth Damron was one-for-three with an RBI and a stolen base. Sophomore pitcher Mercedies Angus led from the mound with seven strikeouts in seven innings.

Vs. Grand Rapids Community College, April 7, 2012

The Bruins split their games with GRCC on April 7, winning their first game 2-0 and losing their second game 3-5.

In game one (2-0), Nearpass was two-for-four at bat, including an RBI, and stole three bases. Harding had a double going one-for-four, while Angus hit two-for-four, Damron hit one-for-three and sophomore catcher Paige Richmond hit one-for-three with an RBI. Angus led from the mound with two strikeouts in seven innings.

In game two (3-5), Allwardt hit two-for-three, including a double and an RBI; Nearpass and Harding both hit one-for-three with a double apiece; and freshman infielder Devan Showerman hit a double going one-for-one at bat. Van Oosten led from the mound with eight strikeouts in seven innings.
