  • The Soo Evening News of Sault Ste. Marie posted an article highlighting the high school baseball co-MVPS of the Straits Area Conference, including Sault High senior pitcher Tyler Kirkland, who the article says is committed to play baseball at Kellogg Community College. According to the article, “Kirkland was the Blue Devils’ top pitcher and the ace of the Straits Area Conference, going 4-1 with a 1.80 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 35 innings. … He was clocked as high as 86 mph on the radar gun. … Kirkland also hit .300 for the Blue Devils, who finished 21-11-1 overall and won the conference with a 6-1-1 record.”

  • The Kansas City Star posted an obituary for 73-year-old Kay Allene (Premoe) Mehlisch, who according to the article was born in Lansing and earned a degree in Nursing in the early 1970s from Kellogg Community College. “Kay then began her 30-year career as a registered nurse serving in the areas of intensive care, home health, medical research and school nursing before her retirement,” the obituary says. “Kay was a wonderful caregiver and truly enjoyed working in a field that allowed her to minister to the physical needs of others.”
