Members of Kellogg Community College’s Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) have donated a bench installed for students and visitors at the entrance to the colleges Regional Manufacturing Technology Center (RMTC), 405 Hill Brady Road.
The plastic-coated, steel-frame bench which measures roughly 6 feet long, 2.5 feet wide and a little more than 2 feet high served as the groups annual donation to the college for 2012.
In the past, the ILR has donated items including a laptop for the Lifelong Learning Department, equipment for the Fehsenfeld Center in Hastings, and has established an ILR Endowment Fund with the Kellogg Community College Foundation.
Connie Dawe, program coordinator of the ILR and the Lifelong Learning Department, said the gift of the bench serves a real need at the RMTC.
“This year we noticed a need for the students of both the RMTC and the ILR in needing a place to wait for a ride,” Dawe said. “We are so happy that we were able to gift the RMTC this bench so that future students will be able to have a place wait in comfort.”
The bench was installed at the RMTC in July by Greg Hall of Schweitzer Construction in Battle Creek, and was dedicated at the beginning of the ILRs August board meeting on Friday, Aug. 10.
