KCC volleyball wins one, loses one of first two matches at home

Kellogg Community College’s women’s volleyball team split their first home matches of the season this week, falling to Kalamazoo Valley Community College in four sets on Tuesday but dropping Jackson Community College in three last night (see the video above for some highlights from the sets against Jackson). Here are the stats for these last two games:

Vs. KVCC on Tuesday, Sept. 11 (24-26, 25-17, 25-27, 15-25):

Freshman Janelle Hayes, of  Battle Creek, had eight kills, two solo blocks and four assisted blocks; sophomore Megan Allen, of Colon, had 32 assists and two aces; sophomore Darcie Melching, of Cheboygan, had 10 kills and one solo block; and sophomore Kylie Marquardt, of Macomb, had 11 kills and nine digs.

Vs. JCC on Thursday, Sept. 13 (26-24, 28-26, 25-23):

Hayes had 10 kills, two solo blocks and two assisted blocks; Marquardt had 10 kills, five digs, one ace and one assisted block; Allen had 27 assists, two kills, two aces and three assisted blocks; and freshman Tara VanDenberg, of Battle Creek, had 15 digs.

Of the match against JCC, Amy Julien, head coach of Kellogg Community College’s women’s volleyball team, said, “The ladies worked hard and gave the emotion necessary to compete in volleyball. Outstanding!”

The team’s next game begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, against Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids.
