KCC men’s basketball defeats top-20 ranked GRCC 94-87

The Kellogg Community College men’s basketball team took down Grand Rapids Community College Wednesday, besting the Raiders 94-87 in another intense home game.

It’s a big win for the Bruins, who were coming off two tough conference losses in overtime. GRCC, meanwhile, entered the contest ranked 19th in the nation, according to the latest National Junior College Athletic Association poll.

Sophomore guard Marlon Allen (N. Farmington) led the Bruins in scoring with 24 points with five assists, while sophomore guard Christian Covile (John Glenn) dropped 22 and also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Freshman forward Nathan Taylor (Battle Creek Central) had 17 points and 8 rebounds, while sophomore forward Darius Holman (Rich East) scored 13, sophomore center Henry Williams (Albion) had five blocks and freshman guard Jalen Lamar (Comstock) had four assists.

The win was the first conference victory for the Bruins, bringing their Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference record to 1-2 and their overall record to 4-11 for the season so far. They play next beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, against Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville.
