KCC basketball teams fall to Jackson CC in weekend contests

KCC's basketball teams play Ancilla College in Donaldson, Ind., tonight.

KCC’s basketball teams play next on Wednesday against LCC in Lansing.

The Kellogg Community College basketball teams fell to Jackson Community College at home on Saturday, with the women’s team losing 65-76 and the men losing 81-95. Below are stats for KCC for each game.

KCC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (lost 65-76)

Sophomore forward Janeesa Jamierson (Battle Creek Central), freshman guard Jackie Harwood (Sault Area) and sophomore guard Taylor Mainstone (Harper Creek) all scored in double digits for the Bruins, scoring 19, 12 and 11 points, respectively. Mainstone also had three steals.

Also contributing for the Bruins was freshman point guard Teonna Pope (Southeastern), who had 11 rebounds and nine assists, and freshman guard Cherese Vasser (Southeastern), who had eight rebounds.

Saturday’s loss brings the women’s team’s Michigan Community College Athletic Association record to 3-4 and their overall record to 7-9 for the season so far. They play next beginning at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, against Lansing Community College in Lansing.

KCC MEN’S BASKETBALL (lost 81-95)

Sophomore forward Darius Holman (Rich East), freshman forward Nathan Taylor (Battle Creek Central), sophomore guard Marlon Allen (North Farmington) and sophomore guard Christian Covile (John Glenn) all scored in double digits for the Bruins, scoring 18, 16, 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Taylor also had nine rebounds, while Allen had five assists and Holman had three steals.

Also contributing for the Bruins was freshman guard Jalen Lamar (Comstock), who had three assists, and freshman forward Devrin Hill (Portage Central), who had three steals.

Saturday’s loss brings the men’s team’s Michigan Community College Athletic Association record to 3-4 and their overall record to 6-13 for the season so far. They play next beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, against Lansing Community College in Lansing.
