The Kellogg Community College women’s basketball team ended their 2012-13 season with a 56-68 loss to Grand Rapids Community College in a first-round game of their Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference District G tournament last Tuesday.
The Bruins finished the year with a winning 6-10 record in the MCCAA and a winning record of 10-17 for the season overall.
Kyle Klingaman, head coach of the women’s basketball team at KCC, said the season went well.
“We had some tough games, but stayed together as a team,” Klingaman said. “We worked hard to improve each game and qualified for the first round of the MCCAA state tournament for the first time in two seasons. We will miss the great all-around play of our sophomores, but we are looking forward to next season.”
Three Bruins were recognized with post-season MCCAA awards, including sophomore forward Janeesa Jamierson (Battle Creek Central), who was named to the All-Western Conference 2nd Team; and freshman guards Jackie Harwood (Sault Area) and Teonna Pope (Southeastern), who were named All-Western Conference Honorable Mentions.
“We are proud of the ladies who received All-Conference awards,” Klingaman said.
Harwood led the Bruins on offense in their final game, scoring 24, while Pope scored nine with six assists. Freshman guard Therese Vasser (Southeastern) pulled down eight rebounds and grabbed four steals.
