3 KCC softball players receive postseason MCCAA honors

Three Kellogg Community College softball players have been recognized with postseason honors by the Michigan Community College Athletic Association.

Catcher/infielder Genevieve Baushke (Decatur/Decatur High School), outfielder Mackenzie Kendall (Bellevue/Pennfield High School) and infielder Michaela Marble (Williamston/Williamston High School), all sophomores, each received All-Western Conference Honorable Mentions.

The Bruins finished seventh in their conference this season with an 8-20 MCCAA record, which Russ Bortell, head coach of the team, said includes wins against Grand Rapids Community College and Lansing Community College, the second and third place teams in the conference, respectively.

“Although we didn’t finish in conference where we had hoped and didn’t have the record we wanted, we did some good things on and off the field this spring and feel we developed the base we need to build off for future success,” Bortell said. “Our sophomores understood what we needed to do to take another step in building a winning program and committed to that.”
