Two members of the Kellogg Community College music faculty will present a concert for the residents of an independent living facility in Novi this morning and afternoon.
Vocal music professor Gerald Blanchard and keyboard instructor and faculty pianist Kathy Cary will be performing at the Grand Court Novi, 45182 W. Park Drive, Novi, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In an email, Cary, whose sister is a resident at Grand Court, said she has played the piano for residents at the facility during lunch on several occasions and invited Gerald, whom her sister enjoyed seeing perform in the past, to accompany her this time.
“Volunteer music entertainment for the residents is most appreciated by the directors and staff of Grand Court, as well as the residents,” Cary said. “Gerald and I are excited for this opportunity to present music in a joint venture for bringing joy, happiness and our enthusiasm not only for my sister, but also for all of the residents at Grand Court Novi.”
Cary will begin the presentation by playing an assortment of easy listening music, show tunes and popular music from the 1940s through the 1980s from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Blanchard will join her at noon to sing several selections, including the traditional spiritual “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”; Broadway musical selections “All I Ask of You,” from “The Phantom of the Opera,” and “Ol’ Man River,” from “Show Boat”; and “When I Fall in Love,” which was featured in the movie “Sleepless in Seattle.”
Cary will conclude the program with a another portion of favorites and requests from the residents, finishing at 1 p.m.
