This week at KCC: Oct. 7-13, 2013

Here are some reminders of upcoming events related to Kellogg Community College. The week has been designated Celebrate Recovery Week at KCC, with events focused on moderation or abstinence from alcohol scheduled throughout the week.

Scheduled for Monday, Oct. 7, 2013:

  • KCC’s Air Rescue Firefighter (ARFF) Trainer, an aircraft fire simulator used to train fire departments across the United States to respond to aircraft fires, will be used to train firefighters from the Santa Maria Fire Department in Santa Maria, Calif. The training will continue through Tuesday, Oct. 8. For more information about the ARFF Trainer, visit www.kellogg.edu/arff.
  • A Celebrate Recovery Week at KCC table will be in the Student Center on KCC’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where students will be asked to sign a pledge of moderation or abstinence. Paper tulips will be sold to honor those who choose to use alcohol and drugs responsibly, and information and applications for “Seeds of Success” scholarships will be handed out. At 1:30 p.m. paper tulips and a Celebrate Recovery banner will be hung to be displayed throughout the week.
  • KCC’s Board of Trustees will meet in workshop format from 6:15 until approximately 9 p.m. in the Student Center on KCC’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek. During the workshop, which is open to the public, the Board will discuss a variety of college-related matters and engage in long-term strategic planning.

Scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013:

  • Patrick Casey, director of Career and Employment Services at KCC, will present a free Academic Workshop titled “Job Interviewing” from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Spring Lake Room in the Morris Learning Resource Center on KCC’s North Avenue campus.   • KCC’s women’s volleyball team plays at home against conference opponent Kalamazoo Valley Community College beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Miller Gym on KCC’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek. The game will be the team’s annual autism awareness game, during which team members will wear special shirts and donations will be accepted at the door to benefit the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek Autism Society. Scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013:

  • Miller College will host a Transfer Student Information Table from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the central walkway of KCC’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek.
  • A Promise Garden planting and ceremony will be held beginning at 11 a.m. on the steps at the front entrance to KCC’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek.
  • A National Coming Out Day event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contact Student Life for more information.
  • KCC’s women’s soccer team plays against conference opponent Schoolcraft College beginning at 4 p.m. in Livonia. For more information about the women’s soccer team, visit www.kellogg.edu/athletics/soccer/index.html.
  • The KCC chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa national honor society will hold an Information Social at the college’s Fehsenfeld Center in Hastings from 4:40 to 5:30 p.m.

Scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013:

  • Siena Heights University will host a Transfer Student Information Table from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the central walkway of KCC’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek.
  • The KCC chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa national honor society will hold an Information Social at the college’s Eastern Academic Center in Albion from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
  • KCC’s women’s volleyball team plays against conference opponent Lansing Community College beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Lansing. For more information about the women’s volleyball team, visit www.kellogg.edu/athletics/volleyball/index.html.

Scheduled for Friday, Oct. 11, 2013:

  • The second disbursement of financial aid refund checks for single-semester loans will be mailed on Friday, Oct. 11. For more information, visit www.kellogg.edu/financial.
  • KCC will host free Transfer Tours of Albion College and Olivet College departing from KCC’s North Avenue campus at 9 a.m. The tours will include transportation to and from the transfer schools from KCC’s North Avenue campus, lunch, campus tours and admissions presentations. Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013:

  • KCC’s women’s soccer team plays at home against Owens Community College beginning at 1 p.m. on the soccer field on KCC’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek. The game will be the team’s annual breast cancer awareness game, during which team members will wear pink socks and donations will be taken at the gate to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Coming soon:

  • KCC will host photographer Christopher Schneberger’s exhibit “Glimmer: The Haunting of the Graham House” from Monday, Oct. 14, through Friday, Nov. 8, in the college’s Eleanor R. and Robert A. DeVries Gallery in the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center on KCC’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek. The exhibit will be free and open to the public for viewing during exhibit hours, which are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
  • KCC’s Regional Manufacturing Technology Center is hosting an Open House from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15. The open house will include a ribbon-cutting at 3 p.m. by the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce, demonstrations of the cutting-edge technology inside the RMTC, faculty-led presentations and information about company partnerships and course registration.  Click here for more information from a post on this blog.
  • KCC will host a free Transfer Tour of Grand Valley State University departing from KCC’s North Avenue campus at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18. The tour will include transportation to and from GVSU from KCC’s North Avenue campus, lunch, a campus tour of GVSU and a GVSU admissions presentation.   • Spring 2014 registration opens at 7 a.m. online and at 8 a.m. in person on campus on Monday, Oct. 28.
  • The Financial Aid Office’s fall Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeal deadline is Friday, Nov. 1. Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.
  • The nonrefundable $400 deposit for students and community members participating in KCC’s international travel trip to Europe next spring is due to KCC on Friday, Nov. 1. Click here for more information about the trip from a post on this blog.
  • The fall satisfactory academic progress (SAP) deadline for financial aid students is Friday, Nov. 1. For more information, visit www.kellogg.edu/financial.
  • The priority processing deadline for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students applying for financial aid to attend KCC for the Spring 2014 semester is Friday, Nov. 15. By submitting the FAFSA with correct and complete information by this date, students allow for adequate processing time in order to determine financial aid eligibility by the beginning of the spring semester.
