Kellogg Community College has spots available in a 12-day Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program course beginning Monday, Nov. 25.
The CNA Training Program is an 80.5-hour credited course – designated NURS 105 at KCC – approved by the Michigan Department of Community Health. The course consists of classroom, laboratory and clinical instruction, with a major emphasis on long-term care and the integration of concepts from acute care and home health care.
Classroom hours will focus on theory, while laboratory hours will focus on attainment of skills that are necessary for the Nursing Assistant to possess. The course also will include clinical hours in a public long-term care setting focusing on implementing skills learned in the lab.
Pamela Edwards-Foy, Nurse Aide Training coordinator, said Certified Nurse Aides help Registered Nurses care for patients in long-term care settings, hospitals, mental health facilities and home health care settings.
“Nurse Aides assist in daily living activities and are known to be the eyes and ears of the patient,” Edwards-Foy said. “Our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program prepares the student with the fundamental skills required to perform these job duties.”
Those who complete the CNA training offered at KCC will receive a training completion certificate required for state certification testing.
“It has been said that the Nurse Aide produces the ultimate effectiveness in care,” Edwards-Foy said. “Becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant can be a very rewarding job for those who enjoy helping make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.”
Individuals interested in the training may view full admissions criteria online at www.kellogg.edu/alliedhealth/nursing/pdf/NAinfo.pdf and apply at www.kellogg.edu or in person on KCC’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek. Perfect attendance is required and a criminal background check will be run the first day of the course.
