Men’s basketball team wins first home game 95-60

The Kellogg Community College men’s basketball team won their first home game of the season last Friday, besting the JV squad from Marygrove College 95-60 at the Miller Gym.

The win brings the Bruins’ record to 1-7 for the season so far, though the team’s first conference game — away against rival Kalamazoo Valley Community College — isn’t scheduled until Jan. 4, 2014.

In the win on Friday, forward Vadale Jackson (Detroit/Chandler Park Academy) led the Bruins on offense, racking up a double-double by scoring 32 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in addition to putting up two blocks. Guard Devin Alexander (Benton Harbor/Benton Harbor High School) scored 26, dished out five assists and had four steals, while forward Nathan Taylor (Battle Creek/Battle Creek Central High School), the team’s only sophomore, scored 11, pulled down 14 rebounds and dished out 11 assists for a triple-double.

Also contributing for the Bruins were guard Lincoln Hackworth (Homer/Homer High School), who scored nine; forward Tyler Shelton (Berrien Springs/Berrien Springs High School), who had three blocks; and guard Anthony Hartman (Detroit/Chandler Park Academy), who had three steals.

The Bruins’ next game starts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, against Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn. The team’s next home game starts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, against conference opponent Grand Rapids Community College at the Miller Gym.
