More than three dozen Kellogg Community College employees lost a combined total of nearly 200 pounds to take first place in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s Win by Losing weight loss challenge last fall.
Thirty-eight employees participated in the event, which ran from Aug. 29 through Oct. 24 and required weekly weigh-ins from team members. The percentage of weight lost for each team during the length of the competition was compared and the team that had the greatest percentage of weight loss won.
KCC took first place out of nine teams in their division.
Holly McKee, director of Support Services at KCC and team coordinator for the College’s Win by Losing participants, said the College is committed to encouraging healthy choices for its employees and students and that the win is just one example of how the College is working to further develop a culture of health at KCC
“Efforts such as this encourage individuals to engage in healthful practices in an environment that is filled with encouragement and support,” McKee said. “There were some wonderful success stories on our team and people are already asking when the next competition begins.”
The Win by Losing weight loss challenge is a free competition open to all BCBS of Michigan group customers held to help individuals lose weight while having fun at the same time. The competition runs twice each year; the next round begins in February.
