Open auditions for Kellogg Community College’s Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop Ensemble will be held the first week of September.
The auditions – which are open to community members and students alike – will be for roles in the ensemble’s December production of “Menotti’s Christmas Opera: Amahl and the Night Visitors.” They will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, and from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center on KCC’s campus at 450 North Ave., Battle Creek.
Audition slots must be scheduled in advance with ensemble director Dr. Gerald Blanchard by sending an email request with the selected audition date and time to blanchardg@kellogg.edu.
Auditions will be held for the following principal roles:
- Mother (soprano)
- Amahl (soprano role for a boy between the ages of 9 and 14)
- King Kaspar (tenor)
- King Melchior (baritone)
- King Balthazar (bass)
- The Page (tenor)
Audition participants are encouraged to prepare a selection from the opera, though another selection sung in English that will best showcase the participant’s voice will be allowed. While participants are also encouraged to bring their own accompanist, a staff pianist is available if a request is submitted 48 hours in advance of the audition.
Those selected for the opera must commit to rehearsals beginning mid-September from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on select Wednesday evenings as well as performances at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6 and 3 p.m. Dec. 7.
