Kellogg Community College’s Service-Learning office will host two free community training sessions this month to assist area organizations in better connecting with their volunteers.
The training sessions are offered in collaboration with HandsOn Battle Creek and will be held at the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region Board Room, 34 W. Jackson St., Suite 4a, Battle Creek.
“These training sessions are a neat opportunity for nonprofits to gain a better understanding of how service-learning students can support their mission as an organization,” Kate DeGraaf, KCC service-learning manager, said. “They will also allow the service-learning office to gain more insight for KCC to prepare our students and support needs in our community.”
Training opportunities include:
- Service-Learning Certification, 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10: This training will provide an introduction to service-learning and information about how KCC service-learning students connect with area organizations. The United Way’s Abby Lumbard will also cover how local K-12 schools connect with area organization through service-learning.
- GiveGab Workshop, 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10: GiveGab is a social network for volunteers and volunteer managers that allows registered users to search for volunteer opportunities within their community, connect with fellow service workers and organizations and keep track of hours served with organizations or on specific service initiatives. This workshop will provide training for organizations on how to better connect with volunteers and how to help share the organization’s story with the community.
