Due to recent school closings and delays, the application deadline for the Kellogg Community College Foundation’s Gold Key Scholarships for recent high school graduates has again been extended, to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4. Applications must be dropped off or postmarked by this deadline to be accepted for consideration.

The $9,000 Gold Key Scholarship is among the most prestigious scholarships offered through the KCC Foundation, awarding qualified recipients $4,500 annually for two years. The scholarship recognizes outstanding academic and personal achievement and is awarded to recent high school graduates seeking to enter KCC as full-time freshmen.

Teresa Durham, executive director of the KCC Foundation, said that high school seniors graduating this spring as well as recent high school graduates from previous years are welcome to apply for the awards, which will be disbursed beginning this fall.

The Gold Key Scholarships were established at KCC nearly 20 years ago and were inspired by Elizabeth H. Binda, who served as a KCC Trustee and KCC Foundation Board Director Emeritus at the time. Last year, the Foundation awarded 16 of the scholarships to area students.

“Since the first Gold Key awards, outstanding students have benefited from the generosity of donors who continue to make the scholarships possible,” Durham said. “Gold Key Scholarships demonstrate a commitment to recognizing outstanding academics and leadership potential for students as they begin their college career at Kellogg Community College.”

Gold Key application forms and scholarship criteria are available on the KCC Foundation website at www.kellogg.edu/gold-key. KCC Foundation scholarship application booklets including applications for all 2015-16 KCC Foundation scholarships are available in the counseling departments of all area high schools, in addition to the KCC Foundation, Advising, Financial Aid and Student Services offices at KCC.

The application deadline for other KCC Foundation scholarships for the 2015-16 academic year is March 6, with the exception of the KCC Trustee Scholarship and transfer scholarships, which have a deadline of March 13.
