Open auditions for Kellogg Community College’s Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop Ensemble will be held on Aug. 28 in Battle Creek.
The auditions – which are open to community members and students alike – are for roles in the ensemble’s December Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop production including selections from Giacomo Puccini’s “La Bὸheme” and Jonathan Larson’s “Rent.” The auditions will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, in the auditorium of the newly renovated Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center on KCC’s campus at 450 North Ave., Battle Creek.
Audition slots must be scheduled in advance with ensemble director Carmen Bell by sending her an email request with a preferred audition time to bellc4@kellogg.edu.
Auditions will be held for the following principal roles for “La Bὸheme”:
- Rodolfo (soprano)
- Mimi (soprano)
- Marcello (baritone)
- Musetta (soprano)
- Schaunard (baritone)
- Colline (bass)
- Mark Cohen (tenor)
- Roger
Auditions will be held for the following principal roles for “Rent”:
- Mark Cohen
- Roger Davis
- Mimi Márquez
- Tom Collins
- Maureen Johnson
- Joanne Jefferson
- Ensemble (multiple roles)
Audition participants are encouraged to prepare a classical or musical theatre selection sung in English that will best showcase his or her voice. While participants are also encouraged to bring their own accompanist, a staff pianist is available if a request is submitted 48 hours in advance of the audition.
Those selected for KCC’s Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop cast must commit to participating in rehearsals from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on select Tuesday evenings beginning in September as well as to the final Opera/Musical Workshop performance scheduled for 3 p.m. Dec. 6.
