Kellogg Community College invites the public to celebrate the opening of the College’s newly renovated Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center with a rededication event Sept. 24.
The Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center Rededication event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the center, on campus at 450 North Ave., Battle Creek. Highlights of the day’s events will include entertainment, giveaways and demonstrations of ways the new space is being utilized by students. The formal rededication ceremony will include:
- An official welcome at 5 p.m.
- Dedication of the new Ed Zentera Band Room at 5:15 p.m.
- Dedication of the new Eleanor R. and Robert A. DeVries Gallery and the expanded outdoor courtyard at 5:30 p.m.
Refreshments will be available throughout the event on both floors of the Davidson Center, with student guides available to give tours and provide information to visitors.
Mark O’Connell, interim president of KCC, said the updated space will be more comfortable and usable both for students and members of the community.
“In addition to being a more convenient and accessible space more conducive to learning for our students here at KCC, the updated Davidson Center is better equipped to serve in its role as a venue for the several community events held onsite each semester,” O’Connell said. “We’re enthusiastic to share the new space as a better version of the asset it’s always been to the Battle Creek community, and grateful for the community’s support in making it happen.”
The Davidson Center, which primarily houses the College’s visual and performing arts programs, was closed to students following the Fall 2014 semester, with renovations beginning in late December and stretching into this summer. The $6.6 million renovation project, funded by the voter-approved capital millage renewed in 2012, significantly upgraded the center’s facilities and technology capabilities, expanded common areas for students and allowed for the integration of new equipment and materials, including a larger stage and new theater-style seating in the center’s auditorium.
The center opened to students on schedule at the start of the Fall 2015 semester, which began Aug. 27.
