First KCC Bruins Give Back volunteer event of Spring 2016 semester is Feb. 26

The first Bruins Give Back volunteer service event of Kellogg Community College’s Spring 2016 semester will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 26, at two locations in Battle Creek.

A collaborative, campus-wide service program involving the College’s Service-Learning area, Student Life office and HandsOn Battle Creek, Bruins Gives Back brings KCC students and employees together in service through volunteering at locations in and around Battle Creek.

Bruins Give Back is held from 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays up to three times per semester, and past events have been located at elementary schools, community gardens and at various locations on campus at KCC, to name a few. Service locations for the Feb. 26 event include:

  • The Food Bank of South Central Michigan, where volunteers will sort food or create after-school packs for students.
  • KCC’s Regional Manufacturing Technology Center, where volunteers will assist Industrial Electricity professor Kevin Barnes take apart Binder Park Zoo’s Christmas lights so they can be rewired.

All KCC students and employees are invited to serve at this and future Bruins Give Back events, and can sign up online via the Bruins Give Back registration form. Future Spring 2016 Bruins Give Back dates include:

  • Friday, March 18
  • Friday, April 22

Nearly 150 KCC students and employees together volunteered for more than 400 hours through Bruins Give Back events during the Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 semesters.
