Kellogg Community College will have a new online, mobile-friendly way to search and sign up for classes beginning this week.

The College is launching a Student Planning expansion of its online Self-Service System on Feb. 18 to simplify and modernize the academic planning and registration process for students. Currently used by students to view financial accounts, make payments and plan financial aid, the Student Planning expansion will include course registration functionality as well as planning tools to help students outline an academic pathway and see progress toward a specific degree.

The new registration system will allow students to build detailed course schedules and to see important registration information in real time, including required program prerequisites; course completions and progress toward degrees; which courses are currently available and how full they are; and more.

An Ellucian software product, the new system also will allow students to register directly from the course plan built in their account, and will facilitate academic planning through the allowance of direct interaction with KCC’s academic advisors later this spring. The system also features a responsive design built for mobile devices, and includes the ability for students to export their course plans to various calendar tools available via apps and other mobile technologies.

KCC’s Chief Information Officer Bob Reynolds said the system will make things easier and more efficient for students as they search for classes and plan their futures at KCC.

“Our new Student Planning system modernizes the sign-up process for students and removes barriers to student registration, academic planning and advising, and clears the way for students on their pathways to completing their educational goals at KCC,” Reynolds said. “The new system is well organized, intuitive and easy to use, and will make signing up for classes at KCC easier and more accessible than ever before.”

The new Student Planning system will be accessible to all KCC students via a Student Planning link in the KCC Self-Service Center menu in the College’s Bruin Portal, and will replace the College’s Kellogg Registration Information System (KRIS), the current online registration system. While accessible for academic planning purposes beginning Feb. 18, registration options won’t be available until Monday, April 11, when registration opens for the Summer 2016 semester. Full integration with KCC’s Advising office will be completed by May, in advance of Fall 2016 registration.

More information about KCC’s new Student Planning system is available online at www.kellogg.edu/helpdesk, where students can find upcoming training schedules and technology support. Information is also available via the Help Desk by calling 269-965-4148 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. through noon Fridays, or by emailing helpdesk@kellogg.edu.

The Student Planning system is just the latest major software update at the College designed to facilitate the educational process for students. Recruiter, which similarly streamlines the application process for new KCC students, was launched last fall. That system is available online now at apply.kellogg.edu.
