Kellogg Community College is offering a pair of Spring Break Robotics Camps in April for youth in sixth through ninth grades.
Both camps will be held at KCC’s Regional Manufacturing Technology Center, 405 Hill Brady Road, Battle Creek. The cost for each camp is $99; space is limited and will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Camps include:
Build Your Own Robot 101
8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, April 4-7
In this camp, students will learn the basic design concepts required to create functioning robots. They will also learn about different types of robots and where they are used in the real world. Students will be introduced to Lego Mindstorms sets and have the opportunity to design and build robots that can perform certain tasks to complete challenges. This camp will engage students in an exciting learning experience focusing on the critical technology and design principles that can lead to the careers of tomorrow.
Amazing Mechanical Creations! Robots that Climb, Catch, Throw & Fetch
1-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, April 4-7
This camp is designed to explore various robot designs used in robotics competitions. Together, students will identify the pros and cons of different methods used to grasp objects, lift items and make robots climb, and will analyze various wheels and their uses in driving bases. The challenges and designs to be explored are those commonly used by robotics competition teams. After learning and planning, students will be able to design and construct a robot that is best suited for a particular challenge in a competition environment.
