Kellogg Community College continues its yearlong series of 60th anniversary events this month with an exhibition of historical photos from the College’s archives.
“Photographs from the Archives: KCC 60th Anniversary Celebration Art Exhibition” is on display now at the Eleanor R. and Robert A. DeVries Gallery in KCC’s Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave., Battle Creek. The exhibit is free and open to the public for viewing through Sept. 8 during regular gallery hours, which are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
The exhibit features more than three dozen archival images selected, scanned, retouched, printed and framed by Tanya Hilliker, Chris Radford and Jenny Reimer, students who completed the work as part of an independent study art course at KCC this spring.
Images featured include black and white and color images spanning dates from 1956 – when KCC was founded as Battle Creek Community College and located in downtown Battle Creek – to the present. Subjects range from photos of KCC’s campus, classrooms and staff to photos of students engaged in academic programs, the arts, athletics and other events and activities from throughout KCC’s history.
KCC’s “Photographs from the Archives” exhibit is one of a continuing series of events commemorating the 60th anniversary of the College this academic year. From the first graduating class of just 18 students in 1958, the college now serves more than 10,000 students each year from campuses in Battle Creek, Albion, Coldwater and Hastings, as well as online. Previous 60th anniversary events have included KCC Homecoming, student Club Cup, and choral concert events in April. The year of celebration will culminate with a Community Gala Celebration to be held on the College’s North Avenue campus June 3.
