KCC volleyball sweeps Owens Invitational, brings season record to 7-0

Kellogg Community College’s women’s volleyball team continued its winning streak with an impressive 4-0 run at the Owens Community College Invitational in Ohio this past weekend, bringing the Bruins’ current season record to a perfect 7-0.

Not only did the Bruins win all their matches this weekend, but they won them all in three straight sets. See scores from each match below.

Match 1 vs. Macomb Community College

On Friday, Sept. 1, the Bruins took set one 25-16, set two 25-15 and set three 25-20 over Macomb Community College.

Match 2 vs. Sinclair Community College

Also on Friday, Sept. 1, the Bruins took set one 25-23, set two 25-21 and set three 25-23 over Sinclair Community College.

Match 3 vs. Columbus State Community College

On Saturday, Sept. 2, the Bruins took set one 25-20, set two 25-15 and set three 25-18 over Columbus State Community College.

KCC was led on the court by sophomore Hannah Landis (Three Rivers/Three Rivers High School), who had 13 kills and 6 digs; freshman Kameron Haley (Battle Creek/St. Philip Catholic Central High School), who had 17 digs, 3 aces and 2 kills; and returning sophomore Kealey O’Day (Kalamazoo/Galesburg-Augusta High School), who had 30 assists, 1 block and 5 digs.

“Great solid match by everyone,” Head Coach Tom VanWienen said. “The Lady Bruins are playing really good team ball and enjoying themselves on and off the court. Go Bruins!”

Match 4 vs. Lakeland Community College

Also on Saturday, Sept. 2, the Bruins took set one 25-22, set two 25-20 and set three 25-23 over Lakeland Community College.

“Finished up the weekend with a win in a three-set match to stay undefeated,” Head Coach Tom VanWienen said. “We have a big week coming up starting Tuesday with KVCC. Very proud of our Bruins and their commitment to each other!”

The Bruins play next today, Tuesday, Sept. 5, away against conference opponent Kalamazoo Valley Community College in Kalamazoo. The team’s next home match starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, against conference opponent Glen Oaks Community College at the Battle Creek Central Fieldhouse, 162 Champion St., Battle Creek.
