Kellogg Community College’s women’s basketball team earned its first win of the season with a 55-51 victory over Oakton Community College Saturday at home in Battle Creek.
Leading the Bruins on the court were Sarah Gwinn (Jackson/Jackson Northwest), who had 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals; Destiny Kincaide (Chicago, IL/Hyde Park Academy), who had 13 points, 4 assists and 3 steals; and Dareka Clayton (Battle Creek/Battle Creek Central), who had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Head Women’s Basketball Coach Dic Doumanian said the Bruins notched the first win of the season with a really nice all-around performance.
“Trailing 48-43 our defense stepped up in a big way and shut down Oakton,” Doumanian said. “Now its on to MCCAA play. Happy New Year everyone!”
The team plays next at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, against conference opponent Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor. The Bruins’ next home game starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, against conference opponent Muskegon Community College at the Battle Creek Central Fieldhouse, 162 Champion St., Battle Creek.
