Kellogg Community College will host five Legacy Scholars Orientation Days in April and May to assist eligible students from Battle Creek Central, Calhoun Community, Lakeview and W. K. Preparatory high schools with completing the enrollment processes related to the Legacy Scholars scholarship program and attending KCC this fall.

Legacy Scholars Orientation Days will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on the following dates at KCC:

  • Monday, April 30, for Lakeview High School students
  • Wednesday, May 2, for Lakeview High School students
  • Wednesday, May 23, for Calhoun Community High School and W.K. Kellogg Preparatory High School students
  • Thursday, May 24, for Battle Creek Central High School students

An additional session will be held at KCC’s Regional Manufacturing Technology Center campus May 4 for students from all schools interested in industrial and skilled trades.

Students attending Legacy Scholars Orientation Day will meet KCC and Battle Creek College Access Network staff as they assist students through the Legacy Scholars scholarship process, making sure they have completed all of their scholarship and KCC enrollment requirements. Participants will:

  • Learn more about the Legacy Scholars scholarship and completing the process
  • Learn how to enroll in classes at KCC
  • Learn how to complete the financial aid process at KCC
  • Complete a financial literacy activity
  • Take a tour of KCC’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek

Trevion Thomas, Student Success Coach for Early College and Dual Enrollment at KCC, said the orientation events would be valuable for any Legacy Scholars student considering coming to KCC this fall.

“If you’re a Legacy Scholar or the parent of a Legacy Scholar graduating senior, talk to your high school counselor ASAP to let them know you want to attend one of our upcoming Orientation Days,” Thomas said. “Any questions you may have about the Legacy Scholars program or about coming to KCC will be answered during the event, and you can be confident coming to KCC this fall that you’re prepared to start your college journey.”

Legacy Scholars is a scholarship program created in 2005 by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation that provides a last-dollar KCC scholarship for anyone who graduates from Battle Creek Public Schools, the Lakeview School District or Calhoun Community High School. High school students are eligible for Legacy Scholars funding covering tuition and fees for up to 62 credit hours and four book stipends of up to $500.
