Kellogg Community College is hosting a free Informational Session next week for individuals interested in the College’s new Medical Assistant Program.
KCC’s Medical Assistant Program Informational Session will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, in the Kellogg Room of the Student Center on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. The session is free and open to the public.
KCC’s new Medical Assistant Program is a 33-credit-hour certificate program offered in a hybrid format with predominantly online classes and minimal visits to campus. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the American Association of Medical Assistants exam required to become a certified medical assistant.
Medical assistants are multi-skilled professionals trained to assist with office and clinical procedures in medical facilities and outpatient centers under direct supervision of a health care provider. Common medical assistant duties include:
- Greeting patients
- Updating medical records
- Answering phones or email
- Scheduling appointments for patients, admissions or laboratory services
- Prepare patients for examination
- Assist the physician or nurse while an exam is going on
- Conduct basic tests
- Draw blood
- Change dressings or remove sutures
- Assist with the administration of medication
Individuals interested in joining KCC’s Medical Assistant Program are encouraged to attend the Informational Session, where they can learn more about the program and its requirements, the career of a medical assistant and have any questions about the program answered by KCC staff.
