Joseph Glubke, of Battle Creek, has signed a National Letter of Intent to run cross-country at Kellogg Community College and will begin running for the Bruins this fall as part of the College’s inaugural cross-country season.
A 2018 graduate of Lakeview High School, Glubke was a four-year varsity cross-country runner for the Spartans, boasting a 16:37 personal best for the 5K. He also played two years of varsity baseball for Lakeview and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Head KCC Cross-Country Coach Erin Lane said the College is excited to add Glubke to the growing roster of KCC’s first college running team in decades.
“Joe will have success running at this next level,” Lane said. “He’ll make an immediate impact to our brand-new team.”
KCC is adding men’s and women’s cross-country teams this fall as part of a new strategic vision for the College’s Athletics Department, which includes a new Miller Physical Education Building, opening in August; five new sports teams; and potential for new associate degree programs.
The Bruins’ cross-country season opens Friday, Aug. 31, with the Comet Open at Broadway Acres Golf Course in Charlotte.
In addition to adding men’s and women’s cross-country teams in 2018-19, KCC is bringing back its women’s soccer team in 2019-20 and adding men’s and women’s bowling teams in 2020-21. These teams will expand on the College’s current offerings of baseball, men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball. The College is also exploring the potential for creating new associate degree programs in sports management and exercise science.
