KCC holding tryouts for women’s volleyball team

KCC's women's volleyball team huddles after scoring a point during a home match at the Miller Gym.

Kellogg Community College is looking for players to add to its 2018 women’s volleyball team to play for the College this fall.

Prospective athletes must be high school graduates enrolled in at least 12 credit hours at KCC for the Fall 2018 semester.

Individuals interested in trying out for the team should contact Head Coach Tom VanWienen at 269-317-4259 or volleyballcoach@kellogg.edu to set up a time to come in for an open gym.

KCC’s volleyball program prides itself on continuing a strong tradition of excellence both on and off the court. The team boasts nearly three dozen championships since the 1970s, including three national championships, two state championships and nearly a dozen regional championships.

The Bruins had a banner season this past fall, qualifying for postseason play for the first time in more than a decade. The team ended the season with a winning 21-10 record overall and a 10-6 record in their MCCAA Western Conference.

The Bruins open fall season play with a scrimmage Aug. 17 against Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor. The team’s first home game starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, against Ancilla College at KCC’s brand-new Miller Gym.
