KCC Bruin Blast and Civic Engagement Fair is Sept. 18

Posted on Sep 17, 2019 by Kellogg Community College
A text slide with information about KCC's 2019 Bruin Blast and Civic Engagement Fair.

Want to ride a mechanical surfboard? Throw an inflatable ax? Get a free lunch and T-shirt?

You can do all these things and more as Kellogg Community College officially welcomes students back to campus for the Fall 2019 semester with the College’s annual Bruin Blast and Civic Engagement Fair.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, around the reflecting pools at the front of KCC’s campus at 450 North Ave., Battle Creek. The event is free and open to the public, but giveaways – including free lunch and free KCC T-shirts – and prize drawings will only be available to students with a current KCC ID.

College staff, student leaders and representatives from various community organizations will also be on hand to provide information about KCC departments, student organizations and community resources.

This year’s event is also a collaboration with KCC’s Integrative Learning Office, which houses the College’s Service-Learning Program, and will encompass the College’s biannual Volunteer and Civic Engagement Fair. The Volunteer and Civic Engagement Fair provides KCC students, employees and community members alike access to additional community partners and nonprofit organizations to learn about volunteer opportunities in their communities.

Participating organizations this year include:

  • Art Center of Battle Creek
  • Battle Creek Area Habitat for Humanity
  • Battle Creek Outdoor Education Center
  • Battle Creek Pride
  • Battle Creek VA Medical Center Community and Volunteer Service
  • Binder Park Zoo
  • Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence
  • Bronson Battle Creek Volunteers
  • Calhoun County 4-H
  • Calhoun County Visitors Bureau
  • Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center
  • Fair Housing Center of Southwest Michigan
  • Food Bank of South Central Michigan
  • Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan
  • Grace Hospice
  • Haven of Rest Ministries
  • Heartland Hospice
  • Kalamazoo Drop-In Child Care Center
  • Kingman Museum
  • Leila Arboretum Society
  • New Level Sports
  • Operation Christmas Child Southwest Michigan
  • S.A.F.E. Place, Inc.

The Volunteer and Civic Engagement Fair portion of the event is fully open to the public; individuals do not have to be KCC students to meet with community partners on campus.
