Kellogg Community College this week is mourning the passing of Eugene D. Hamaker, who served the College as a member of the Board of Trustees for 30 years, from 1981 until 2011.
During his time on the Board, Gene held various positions, including Chair and Vice Chair, and represented the College on the Michigan Community College Association Board of Directors.
While on the KCC Board of Trustees, Gene helped govern the institution during exciting periods of development and expansion, which included significant increases in enrollment and the building of new facilities in Albion, Battle Creek, Coldwater and Hastings to support educational and workforce development goals across Barry, Branch and Calhoun counties.
Even after his Board service ended, Gene continued to attend KCC events and donate to the KCC Foundation. He was on the North Avenue campus in Battle Creek as recently as December 2019. The KCC family will miss his steady leadership and good humor, and we wish his wife, Alice, and their loved ones peace during their time of loss.
