A record amount of $106,225 was raised for scholarships for Kellogg Community College students during the KCC Foundation’s 23rd annual Bruin Scholarship Open in September.
The annual event – held Sept. 11 at Binder Park Golf Course in Battle Creek – is the largest fundraising event of the year for the Foundation and has raised more than $1.4 million since its inception in 1998.
Funds raised at the event this year will help support approximately 70 student scholarships.
“The KCC Foundation is grateful for the support of our event sponsors and donors, many of whom have partnered with us since 1998,” Teresa Durham, executive director of the KCC Foundation, said. “Their dedication to our mission and commitment to helping KCC students succeed in their educational goals is outstanding.”
A total of 188 golfers participated and 108 sponsors were represented in the Bruin Open this year, which saw a staggered event start and more limited on-course activities than usual due to COVID-19 restrictions. The event was coordinated by more than 50 members of KCC’s staff, retirees and student athletes, including members of the baseball and men’s and women’s cross country teams.
Division champions for the date included the Eisele Family team (Men’s Division), the Binder Park Zoo team (Women’s Division) and the Schroeder DeGraw team (Mixed Division).
