KCC to hold drive-thru commencement ceremony May 13

Kellogg Community College will celebrate two graduating classes this spring with a drive-thru Cruisin’ Commencement ceremony to be held May 13.

The event will allow graduates of the Class of 2021 and the Class of 2020 – whose traditional in-person commencement last year was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic – a chance to receive a ceremonial diploma tube in-person from KCC President Adrien Bennings while also adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols.

Cruisin’ Commencement participants will literally cruise through the KCC parking lot of the College’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek to the crest of the Circle Drive, where they’ll receive their ceremonial diploma tube and faculty, staff and the Board of Trustees will greet them to celebrate their achievement.

“While not the traditional in-person ceremony our Bruin graduates are used to, Cruisin’ Commencement will give our students a chance to receive the recognition they deserve from the KCC community and cap their educational accomplishments at KCC with the pomp and circumstance due for their amazing achievements,” Bennings said, “which are particularly impressive given the obstacles they’ve overcome this past year. We look forward to celebrating our graduates again this spring and literally driving home the fact that once you’re a Bruin, you’re always a Bruin.”

Students who have finished or are finishing their degrees this semester who wish to graduate this spring must apply for graduation by Monday, March 1, by logging in to the Bruin Portal and following the instructions through the “Graduation Overview” link.

Graduates – including 2020 graduates – who wish to participate in the Cruisin’ Commencement ceremony must confirm their participation with the College by Friday, March 12. Instructions have been sent to eligible students’ KCC email addresses, and additional details for student participants will be forthcoming.

Graduates seeking more information should email grad@kellogg.edu or call 269-565-2612.

Graduates and their supporters are encouraged to participate in commencement celebrations online leading up to and through this year’s event, tagging social media posts with #alwaysabruin.

The Class of 2021 is the 63rd graduating class at KCC, which was founded in 1956.
