Kellogg Community College is pleased to announce that Karyann Waukazoo last month joined the institution as its new marketing director.
Waukazoo, formerly the director of marketing for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community in Minnesota, started at KCC in early June to develop and implement marketing, advertising and social media strategies while leading the College’s Public Information and Marketing Department.
Over the past month, Waukazoo has assumed many of the responsibilities previously fulfilled by Eric Greene, KCC’s former chief communications officer, who was promoted in October to vice president for strategy, relations and communications at the College.
“We are thrilled to have Karyann leading our marketing efforts,” Greene said. “Karyann brings with her a level of experience, depth of expertise and quality of leadership that will undoubtedly benefit the interests of the College, our students and our community.”
With more than 20 years in the hospitality industry, specifically in tribal casino resorts, Waukazoo is a people-focused leader who is driven by passion and purpose. Some of her strengths are executing marketing campaigns to drive brand loyalty and incremental revenue along with creating memorable guest experiences through event management and strategic initiatives.
Over her career, she has supported a variety of industries, programs and services, including gaming, retail, entertainment, wellness, education and more. Waukazoo’s alma mater is Ferris State University, where she earned an associate degree in Food Service Management, a bachelor’s in Business Hospitality Management and a master’s in Career and Technical Education. In addition, she also attended the University of Phoenix, where she earned a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing.
“KCC’s mission aligns with my values of creating an enriching experience for lifelong learners, whether a first-generation student or a seasoned professional who is seeking to enhance an existing skill set. It’s easy to support that mission,” Waukazoo said.
As marketing director, Waukazoo will lead the creation, implementation, measurement, research and analysis of the College’s integrated marketing, which encompasses a wide variety of advertising, messaging, graphic design and event-based outreach activities. KCC’s PIM Department – one of three departments in the Strategy, Relations and Communications Division – provides in-house strategy development, marketing management, graphic design services and print and document services on behalf of the College.
PIM employees include Waukazoo; Cab Rininger, Media Design Manager; June Lewis, Print and Document Services Process Specialist; Mike Loader, Print and Document Services Process Specialist; Brandon Smith, Media Design Process Specialist; Kristen Stolz, Department Specialist; and Simon Thalmann, Digital Marketing Manager.
