Berning, of Battle Creek, is a 2018 graduate of Harper Creek High School and also received the KCC Foundation’s prestigious Kim R. Cortright Gold Key Scholarship as a student entering KCC. She will graduate from KCC later this summer with an Associate in General Studies degree.

While a student at KCC, Berning, a standout cross-country runner for the Bruins, earned several athletic and academic awards. She also led the Bruins to a runner-up finish at the NJCAA Division III National Championship last fall, finishing second in the nation individually and earning NJCAA First Team All-American honors.

Berning was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society and was involved in numerous community service projects while at KCC, including Bruins Give Back volunteer events, the annual Bruin Boo community Halloween event and the KCC Foundation’s annual golf outing, and she was the student coordinator for Red Cross blood drives at KCC during her time at the College.

She currently works as a physical therapy technician at Muscle & Spine Rehabilitation Center in Battle Creek and will be studying business management at Western Michigan University when she begins her studies there this fall.
