Multimedia artist and former Olivet College professor Donald C. Rowe will exhibit nearly four dozen works of art at Kellogg Community College as part of his exhibit “Images: Seen and Imagined” in November and December.

The exhibit will run from Monday, Nov. 15, through Friday, Dec. 17, in the Eleanor R. and Robert A. DeVries Gallery of the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. The exhibit is free and open to the public for viewing during regular business hours, which are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

An opening reception for the exhibit, also free and open to the public, will be held with the artist starting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, in the gallery.

The exhibit consists mostly of small multimedia pieces created using oil, acrylic and watercolor paint on boards.

“My primary interest as an artist has been in the composition of works of art. The finding of order, pattern, harmony and balance in life around me and creating that in my art is what is most important to me,” Rowe said in an artist’s statement. “The close replication of the physical surface and form of the motif for me has given way to a search for a more personal weaving of form and content in terms of gestural marks, color, three dimensional elements and organization of shape. In all things a pattern, and in this is the beauty of harmony.”

Rowe graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Visual Design in 1966 and went on to earn a Master of Fine Art degree from the University of Hartford in 1968. He was an art professor at Olivet College from 1968 to 2018, and has been exhibiting his art since the 1960s; his work is included in more than 350 public and private collections.
