A record amount of more than $125,000 was raised for scholarships for Kellogg Community College students during the KCC Foundation’s 25th annual Bruin Scholarship Open last month.
The annual event – held Sept. 9 at Binder Park Golf Course in Battle Creek – is the largest fundraising event of the year for the Foundation and has raised more than $1.6 million since its inception in 1998. This year’s amount raised eclipses the previous record of $117,800, set in 2021, by more than $7,000.
KCC Foundation Executive Director Teresa Durham said funds raised at this event will directly benefit the Foundation’s scholarship program for new and returning Kellogg Community College students.
“The 25th annual Bruin Scholarship Open was a phenomenal success,” Durham said. “The KCC Foundation is still in awe and deeply grateful for the continued commitment from all our generous sponsors, contributors, volunteers and participants. Here’s to 25 years and many more!”
A total of 240 golfers participated and 130 sponsors were represented in the Bruin Open this year, which was coordinated by more than 80 members of KCC’s staff, retirees, current scholarship recipients and KCC student athletes.
Team division champions for the golf event included:
- Men’s Division: The Eisele Family (Kevin Buckner, Brian Coon, Rusty Coon and Charley Eisele)
- Women’s Division: Binder Park Zoo (Gail Bradstreet, Sue Hutchings, Amy Riegel and Jean Steinbacher)
- Mixed Division: Schuler’s Restaurant & Pub (Shannon Damron, Sue Damron, Brandon Inge and Shani Inge)
