Three new financial aid programs are available at Kellogg Community College that could make college more affordable for current and prospective students.
These new financial aid opportunities include:
- The federal government’s one-time student debt relief program, through which eligible borrowers could receive up to $20,000 in student load debt forgiveness. Applications for the program are available now and take just five minutes to complete online on the Federal Student Aid website at studentaid.gov/welcome.
- The U.S. Department of Education’s Fresh Start Initiative, which allows eligible borrowers in default on their federal student loans to reenter repayment status and restore their eligibility to receive additional federal student aid. More information is available via the Federal Student Aid fact sheet at fsapartners.ed.gov/sites/default/files/2022-08/FreshStartFactSheet.pdf.
- The State of Michigan’s Michigan Achievement Scholarship, which provides eligible high school graduates starting with the Class of 2023 up to $2,750 in aid per year to attend community college. Eligible students must demonstrate financial need, which is defined by the state as having an Expected Family Contribution of $25,000 or less when filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). More information is available on the MI Student Aid website at michigan.gov/mistudentaid.
In addition to the above programs, Michigan residents age 25 and older who don’t yet have a college degree may be eligible for free tuition to complete a degree or certificate program at KCC through the state’s Michigan Reconnect program.
