Kellogg Community College Theatre is holding auditions this week for the College’s spring semester production of Neil Simon’s “California Suite.”
Auditions, which are free and open to the general public as well as KCC students, will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Feb. 2 and 3, at the Binda Performing Arts Center, on campus at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. Participants should plan on attending the entire two-hour session on one of the audition dates.
Individuals auditioning for the play need no prior stage experience and don’t need to prepare any material ahead of time; the auditions will consist of reading from the script.
“California Suite” is a collection of four one-act plays set in the same hotel room in the 1970s. The 1976 play, written by Neil Simon, was later adapted into a movie by the same name.
KCC Theatre professor Brad Poer called the tone of the production “low-key sitcom” comedy, and he said each one-act will be directed by a different alumni of KCC Theatre classes. Actors selected for the show will need to commit to up to two days of rehearsal per week leading up to the show, which will run for three evenings Thursday, March 16, through Saturday, March 18, with an afternoon performance Sunday, March 19.
